Sparks fly when a successful financial manager and a legendary football player enter into a legal agreement to have a kid together. They planned on everything––they just didn’t plan on each other.

A slow burn novel.

Stella Donovan’s biological clock is a ticking time bomb.

The successful financial manager has spent her adult life building a career and neglecting her personal life. Problem is, she doesn’t believe in marriage.

Not after watching her mother be treated like garbage by her father. Nope, marriage is not for her.

All she wants is a baby. All she needs is a man to agree to her terms.

Dane Wylder, recently retired NFL tight end and future Hall of Famer, wants a baby.

Naturally, marriage is off the table. He’s not the marrying type. Women are great––as long as they’re trying to get into his bed and not his heart.

But after years of living only for himself, he’s ready to be a father. All he needs is a woman to agree to his terms.

This is the first book in the It Takes Two series and it is a charming, entertaining book about two people who are afraid of relationships. Dane and Stella are both in their thirties and want a baby without marriage or a relationship. It is hilarious as these two meet and stumble through the process of getting to know each other. Along the the way, they are horrified to realize they are falling for each other. They are unsure what to do with their feelings and too scared to have a relationship. This is a fun, light hearted story with engaging characters and a lot of banter. There are so many funny lines and quips and I love Dane Wylder and his sense of humor. He never dates a woman longer than three months. He is a charming former NFL player with a sexy southern accent. He is restless and bored with retirement and is ready to have a child but does want to to get married. Stella Donovan grew up poor and worked hard to be class valedictorian, get a scholarship and attend Harvard. At thirty four she wants to have a baby without having to deal with an irritating man in her life. She has always been obsessed with getting away from poverty and earning money and she has never spent time dating or making friends. Now, Stella is successful and rich and can hire people to help her raise her child. She has it all worked out. But things don’t always work out the way they are planned. Dane and Stella are total opposites. Stella is sassy, smart and researches and plans everything ahead of time. Dane is flirtatious, fun loving and loves trying to get under Stella’s skin. Stella is prickly and isn’t taken in by Dane’s southern charm. They are constantly arguing and bickering and giving each other a hard time. They both have a lot emotional baggage from their childhood and they are flawed but likable characters. This is an emotional and fun story. Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

The book is really slow to start. She doesn’t do a great job of introducing characters but it’s a fun read overall.
  • New Author... coming back for more

This was one of the most fun and exciting books I have read so far in 2018. Best part is that it has my favorite trope... people making babies (accidental or planned). In this case we have a planned baby making with some unexpected surprises for the future mom and dad. Stella Donovan was a perfect heroine. She was a woman any woman should look up to. Strong, resilient, and career driven. However with all of her success she realized she needs to have a baby pronto minus the pesky thing of marriage and unfaithful/unreliable husband. Which is exactly how she finds Dany Wilder, bad boy extraordinaire who is not looking to settle down but like Stella feels the biological clock ticking. With all their planning and meticulous negotiations/talks on how to be the best parents while being separate parental units they didn't plan for real life. It seems like no matter how well you plan things, things that just naturally click together will always do. No use fighting it. However, it was EXTREMELY entertaining to watch Stella and Dany fight that attraction. They were oil and water throughout the book, but together they made a great salad dressing  . The story took me on a slow slow romantic burn that by the time they got to that sweet spot I was sending prayers up to make it happen already. P. Dangelico was a new to me author and now that I have found out this is going to be a series I will be coming back for Risk Taker & Game Changer. Which is fabulous news because I wanted more detailed stories from quite a few of the characters that got introduced in this book.
